What Kitchen Contraption is this? Help Us Out

Reader Denise F. has written in to get some help from the readers of Kitchen Contraptions. Do you know what this item is in the picture - we think it's some type of a serving tray you can keep food warm in with steam heat of some sorts, or just warm.
I was at a public sale a few weeks ago, and bought an old electric percolator for $1.00. Because the auctioneers did not know what this was, and seemingly neither did anyone else in attendance, it came "with" my coffee pot. Do YOU have any ideas? It's plastic, 14 inches long, 6 1/2 inches wide and 1 1/2 inches high. The base is non stick with a 1 inch hole in one corner and it has a plastic dome lid. It has no company markings, just a sticker that says made in Taiwan.

Sound off in the comments and help Denise figure out what this kitchen contraption is.

It's probably a defroster. Is the hole in the corner a drain?
Try putting an ice cube on the surface and see if it melts faster than usual. Sometimes defrosters are made with diamond dust, which acts as an excellent thermoconductor.
