Krups KP1010 Home Cafe Pod Brewer Available at Amazon.com
Looks like the new Krups Home Cafe Coffee Pod Brewer is available at Amazon.com. It's priced at $130 and available from a ZShops seller. The price seems in line with expectations it would be more in the Keurig B50 price range. We will be receiving the Krups Home Cafe Coffee Pod Brewer to review soon and should have a run down on how it's changed from earlier Home Cafe offerings.
"Krups expertise in coffee brewing is combined with the convenience of Home Cafe coffee pods to produce a consistent, custom brewed cup of hot coffee in less than a minute. No coffee mess, no unused coffee down the drain, just perfect pressure-brewed coffeehouse taste on demand."

Kitchen Contraptions.com is part of the Blogpire network, a growing network of blogs providing quality content across a range of subjects. Some of the best posts this week include:
We present LED Cutlery for your dining pleasure! Imagine a darkened room where only you and that special someone can watch food going in their mouth with the glow of a blue LED. Magic! The Q-Ying Gifts and Toys Company seems to have found a way to the hearts and minds of at least a few niche categories including LED Candles as well. So let's set the scene again: You, that special someone, a flickering blue candlelit dinner, and a mouthful of red forks as the night moves past you in utter LED heaven.
Man Retrofits Freezer to Make an Ultra-Efficient Fridge
I've been off the grid this week in Northern California and the one thing I would really want is a bigger freezer. Yes - we have power and a fridge, but it's not big enough to hold everything for the week, and best of all - town is 11 miles away so we've had to make several trips for ice just to keep everything cool and the road is a bit dicey. I would kill to have a nice big freezer for ice, meat, and even some ice cream.
"An off-grid experimenter in Australia, Tom Chalko, has retrofitted a chest freezer to create a fridge that uses only 100 watt-hours (0.1 kWh) per day! Tom points out that vertical door refrigerators are inherently inefficient. As soon as you open a vertical fridge door the cold air escapes, simply because it is heavier than the warmer air in the room. When you open a chest freezer, the cool air stays inside, just because it’s heavy. Any leak or wear in a vertical door seal causes significant loss of efficiency."
If you love making Smoothies, the Smoothie Pro Plus seems like it would be the ultimate Smoothie maker. The unit features a 600-watt motor, two speeds plus a pulse option, and a specially designed ice-crushing blade. Its has a rather large 56-ounce plastic container plus helpful 2- and 4-serving measuring marks, and a blender cap for mixing breadcrumbs, nuts, and other dry ingredients. Available in a variety of popular colors (including RED!!!), the smoothie maker measures approximately 6-1/2 by 8 by 20 inches.
We've been covering solar ovens, cookers, and grills for the entire Summer, and you have to love this Solar Sizzler not only for the name but also for the couple in the pictures. I've never seen two people have more fun cooking in the Sun. It mounts on a camera tripod and comes apart so that you can fit it in a knapsack and take it camping. Best of all? It doesn't cost $400 clams - only $50 bucks for this solar flare wonder!
BAMBOO!!! BAMBOO!!! BAMBOO!!! It's turning up everywhere and especially in the kitchen. And who wouldn't want to buy a bamboo cutting board with the name, "Little Kahuna". I can see the Big Kahuna in our house using this bad little boy.
Premium, hand-selected Totally Bamboo products are beautiful and useful, an ecologically-friendly, naturally renewable resource. Bamboo is 16% harder than maple wood and 1/3 lighter than oak, and absorbs very little moisture so it doesn't shrink or swell like other hardwoods. These beautifully crafted boards are assembled with approved food-grade glue, and never contain dye, stains, or formaldehyde. Little Kahuna dimensions: 12" x 18" x 2 1.4
If you spend an afternoon eating an entire bag of cherries, then you know you'll need a cherry pit plunger. Take the tedium out of pitting and process up to 30 lbs. of cherries in an hour with this plunger-type pitter. Automatically feeds, then removes pit from cherry with one stroke of the plunger. The pit ejects into a see through container and cherry falls into your waiting bowl, with no loss of juice & no bruising. Pitter has plastic housing with metal plunger, and suction base.
Suck.uk Fridge Magnet Bottle Opener: Our Money Where Our Mouth Is
Earlier we covered the Danko fridge magnet bottle opener and tried to find one in the local Boston area on a routine kitchen gadget hunting expedition. Well, we didn't find the Danko version, but did find the Suck.uk version designed by Sam & Jude and it looks very similar. In purchasing such an item like an opener, you have to really want to put your money down as you know you'll be stuck with it and at $22.95 it's not cheap either.
We've really been into Bamboo lately because of it's fast growing properties and truly being a renewable resource. It's nice to see not just a knife block, but a set of knives. I like buying complete gifts when I get a set of knives and this looks to be the set I'm going to give at all those weddings this Summer. YES - screw the registry!
Stop cutting your thumb off and get this knife safety guard. I can't tell you the amount of times I live in total fear trying to cut a large vegetable down the middle. Made of durable plastic, the knife guard fits most kitchen knives and provides a safe resting point for your hand. You can either grip the Knife Guard handle or lay your hand flat across the guard to apply the necessary pressure to cut through your food.
Given our obsession egg cookers, I'm pretty excited about a combination Egg & Toast Cooker! You can poach, warm, or even hard boil eggs, plus it features extra wide toasting slots for everything from bread to croissants.
We love grilling indoors or outdoors and we especially love grilling for it's health benefits. This indoor electric grill operates on 1500 watts, and offers a roomy 131 square inches of cooking surface. It cooks on both sides at once, cutting down on time spent in the kitchen. The variable heat lets you sear steaks or toast a sandwich, cooking up to fifty percent faster than other indoor grills. A floating hinge accommodates various foods from thick burgers and panini sandwiches to delicate, thinner foods, like fish fillets or slices of Canadian bacon. A removable tray catches grease so you taste the food, not the fat.
Currently we've been sitting on an old stool we acquired for cheap at IKEA. Everyday I sit on the thing I pray it's the last day I have to. We've been looking around for something different in the stool category for the kitchen and we think we've found it. The El-Vis Screw Stool is a stool that has a screw-off top revealing a deep, dark hole into which you can place items like kitchen gadgets, cucumbers, or perhaps secret documents. It's also moderately price fro $79.99 at Target.
Infra-red cooking is all the rage. TEC invented the first infra-red burners back in 1981, and they feel that infra-red cooking makes food taste better. TEC grills can be arranged to accomodate your entire outdoor kitchen and we have to say - they look amazing.
We're thinking of going solar radio for our outdoor kitchen. We love the idea of helping out even a little on the whole energy front by winding up our radio and listening to some blues while we grill some ribs.
With the Freeplay EyeMax you can have music wherever you grill. It will play for about 35 minutes at normal volume for each 30 second wind, and you can rewind it at any time, for as much playtime as you want. An LED charge level indicator shows you the best speed to wind it up at. In direct sunlight the EyeMax will charge itself using a built in solar panel, and play continuously without winding.
I just don't feel sometimes that we cover enough napkin holders. In any kitchen you need the perfect napkin holder doing the part of what napkin holders do - look good and hold napkins. Now, if your napkin holder can also look a tad retro - perfection.
One cup of water instead of an entire pot of water boiling saves energy. That thought had to be going through the head of the person who designed the Eco Kettle. The 1.5 litre reservoir of water can be added to the two secondary chambers that will boil. This makes boiling the right amount of water a no brainer, as you can put the right amount in the secondary reservoirs.
When I see a faucet like these from Marco Mammoliti, I just want to rip out all the faucets in my kitchen and start all over. Each faucet has a cool name like Evolution and Dante, and each of the Italian made wonders looks like it came from outer space. Prices are in the $350+ range, but most decent kitchen faucets cost this much. Beam me up Mr. Marco - I want one of these (oh and I'll miss you scotty).

What's better than a terrific spice rack? Well - how about a spice rack / spice jars and holder from Eva Solo. Yet another perfectly designed peeling wonder from Zyliss. This swivel peeler was designed with your comfort in mind and can be used in either the right or left hand. The Zyliss peeler features an angled, ergonomic handle and this allows the peeler to keep hands and wrists more comfortable during long peeling event such as pie making, prepping potatoes, or peeling countless apples for your kids. For safety, the handle is made of non-slip plastic for a secure grip and is coated with UV protection to prevent it from ever yellowing. The blade on this peeler is made of extra-hardened steel that stays sharp and is built to last.
Today and today only Amazon.com is taking 70% Off select items in Kitchen & Housewares. If you've been craving a new coffee maker, kitchen gadget, or even that super expensive espresso machine, it may be more than half off!
If you care about the environment then you'll want the Brabantia Twin Bin. This waste bin from Brabantia introduces two very different, yet complementary features: an environmentally friendly twin-bin feature so that organic and compostable matter can be kept separate from all other waste, and an all new oval body shape that's pleasing on the eye.
We recently covered the ceramic countertop compost bin, and now we can compost in the kitchen trash as well? I can see myself filling up the counter compost, taking over to this new twin bin, then taking it out to the big compost pile out back, until it finally turns into dirt and I put it in the garden.
I know. I know. We just can't get Eva Solo stuff off of the page and then another thing appears - but the stuff is soooo goood. The new Eva Solo barrel grill features enamelled, chrome or nickel-plated parts - made exclusively from stainless stell. The portable coal bucket which is easy to empty of ashes, and the flat protective lid which turns the grill into an extra surface on the patio when the grill is not in use, makes this grill functional as well as practical. We can't imagine covering the Eva Solo barrel grill as it's just too darn amazing looking to be a grill.
A combination lock for your opened bottles of soda? Perhaps lock up the bottle of Jack Daniels at your office so no co-workers can have a swig? Or perhaps lock up the sesame oil your spouse keeps cooking with and you're tired of? It must be KWIKTOP MAGIC! Now you can lock up any bottle with quicktop. The combination lock will keep out just about anyone including yourself when you forget it.
Like the Flexicado, this new whisk from Chef'n has silicone on the ends to help resist heat and stuff sticking to your whisk. It features the Chef'n patented TriGrip handle and because of the silicone - it won't scratch your non-stick cookware.
Since we were just outside stirring up our large compost pile we started to search around for better compost actions after coming inside for a glass of water. I never would have expected a countertop ceramic compost option - but this might be a great way to get things started inside and then take it outside to our larger compost pile. Apparently this containter has an interior that resists odors and stains and has a carbon filter on the lid to trap even more odors. I can tell you right now - if this stuff doesn't work to trap the odors then you can expect a swift return to the manufacturer.

I love snack plates. Currently I have about 15 different ones I use to ensure the right plate for the right snack. One of my favorite snacks is Wasabi peas, and I'm sure the mix of green meets blue with read would be amazing as I watch an episode or two of Entourage. There is a whole set of these funky Tokyo snack plates and and these snack plates are available in three rockin' styles: Rice Cracker Red, Chili Snack Blue and Wasabi Green.
Baking habits are hard to break and using paper baking cups that stick to your muffins makes you wonder why they're so hard. These reusable baking cups are heat resistant, non-stick, and can be reused 1000 times or more (we dare you to try 1001). I would imagine these are made of silicone but it looks like they just don't say on the web site.
Also you may want to check out Design Sponge - great web site and some killer finds in the kitchen arena.
I think vegetable choppers should look like the things they are supposed to chop. I'm tired of guessing what chopper or gadget I've got does what. I guess the design team at Alessi thinks the same way.
The Alesi "Superpepper" Vegetable Chopper comes in Red, Green, or Yellow pepper form and the chopper will cut onions, garlic, nuts, carrots, and much more. To use, simply cut vegetables into small pieces and place on the base. Rest "Superpepper" on top of it and repeatedly press down the knob until the vegetables have been chopped to the desired dimensions. Remember because it is fitted with rotating stainless steel blades the more times you carry out this operation, the finer the vegetables will be chopped.
We've yet to try vacuum coffee from this maker, but have tried it from the Black&Decker and liked the difference in taste. I do think the Bodum Santos Vacuum coffee maker does look a bit better. Water is heated in the lower jug on the stovetop or a spirit burner and eventually boils up through a funnel where it mixes with the ground coffee, once the coffee is brewed, the unit is removed from the heat and brewed coffee is released back into the lower jug. I just hope it makes a great brew.
What everyone needs in their life is a nice looking apple corer. I'm tired of using my pairing knife to try and get that core out, and I'm really tired of how it feels after a nice coring cut to the thumb. The Eva Solo Apple Corer is as perfect for the hand as it is appealing to the eye. The knives are designed to be simple, effective and aesthetic and are both functional in the kitchen as well as on the table. The Apple corer removes the core in a single turning movement. It's stainless steel blade forms a whole with the shaft which makes the knife more robust.

We'll be adding this to put our money where our mouth is series later this month but we don't think we've every covered this amazing little wonder. Unless you consume a bottle of wine every time you open one, putting the cork back in (and with the soon to take over the world screw cap wine phenomen) you'll need something to keep that wine fresh. Well you'll need the one and only original Vacu-Vin! The Vacu-Vin pump removes the air (and the oxygen that spoils wine) from opened bottles. Place it over the reusable stopper and pump out the air. The more stoppers you have the more bottles you can save. We have no less than 5 stoppers in our kitchen. We love this thing.
Vessel just makes great stuff. I think being able to pack up my lunch in something ultra cool instead of a brown paper bag or plastic grocery bag has to win. Plus - it's environmentally sound unless you count using those old shopping bags for something. The vessell workplace dish set comes with everything including a fruit holder to have at lunch. The fruit holder doubles as a cup and you get some groovy utensils to eat with too. Simply put what you want in the main container, pack up your fruit, and then bind it up with the outer shell.
We've been a bit knife crazy as of late and EVA Solo is continuing to fuel our craziness. The Eva Solo Fruit Knife is as perfect for the hand as it is appealing to the eye. The stainless steel blade forms a whole with the shaft, which makes the knife more robust. The knives are designed to be simple, effective and aesthetic and are both functional in the kitchen as well as on the table. The Fruit Knife which also can be used as an Herb knife. It is equipped with an orange peeler to prevent from cutting the fruit meat. Made in stainless steel with plastic and is dishwasher-safe
