It's not surprising that Kitchen Contraptions is still going strong in the Feedster Top 500 Weblogs on the planet. We move into the comfy 309 slot out of 500 blogs and we couldn't be happier. Thanks to our dedicated readers and everyone who sends in such great stuff for us to share with you.
We'll be signing off until 2006, but we will have occasional updates to tide you over until the New Year.
Thanks to all our dedicated readers for your support and your trust during an exciting 2005. And a special thanks to all of our advertisers over this past year - without them we wouldn't be able to bring Kitchen Contraptions each day.
We love to chop and what better way to chop than with this Double Mezzluna from Williams Sonoma. Christmas dinner prep is just but a day away and getting through all that stuffing preparation can be daunting but not daunting when you have double the trouble for those onions.
This old-fashioned tool—whose name means "half-moon" in Italian—is still an international favorite for chopping. Using an easy, two-handed rocking motion, you can swiftly chop onions, garlic or herbs with the curved, 5 1/2" stainless-steel blades.
Please please please buy us this for Christmas! We love the Eva Solo Fruit Peeler and think it's the perfect fruit peeler any fruit peeling occasion which for us - every morning we make apples for our daughter. Best of all the peeler works for both right and left handed people. Perfect.
The stainless steel blade forms a whole with the shaft, which makes the knife more robust. The knives are designed to be simple, effective and aesthetic and are both functional in the kitchen as well as on the table. This peeler works equally well whether you are left or right-handed. Can be used for peeling vegetables as well as for fruit. Made in stainless steel with plastic and is dishwasher-safe.
We like our mugs simple and without handles. We think this mug from CB2 looks amazingly simple. The mug is microwave safe (DO NOT NUKE YOUR COFFEE!!!) and has a nice clean EURO design you can love each morning.
Kitchen Contraptions Featured in Metropolis Magazine
We have just been featured at MetropolisMag.com in their Holiday Gift Guide. We think you'll enjoy all the picks from our kitchen stuff to picks from Treehugger. If you have shopping to do - this could be the guide for you.
Jay Brewer, the founder of Kitchen Contraptions, uncovers a slew of kitchen gadgetry and appliances. And since, inevitably, there's bound to be someone you know who's a self-proclaimed whiz in the kitchen, we turned to him for some gift-giving guidance. His top picks include a new way to cook pasta, a better way to grow wheatgrass, and a waterless "plant" (images 11-15).
We're not sure how or why it works but we do love good bacon. Most of the time frying it up in the pan doesn't seem to be a quick option and especially one with less mess. We think the bacon wave might solve all of our problems but we're not sure if making 28 pieces of bacon at a time is a good idea.
Bacon cooked to perfection in your microwave, for the frying pan taste without the frying pan, or the grease! Make bacon healthier. Less fat less grease less cholesterol less calories cooks up to 14 pieces at once stackable, buy 2 - 28 pieces

Yeah, yeah, yeah, you know the drill. We want to know what your favorite kitchen contraption was in 2005. Tell us your thoughts on the best kitchen gadgets of 2005 and whatever got your attention here at Kitchen Contraptions.
Want some under the counter kitchen lights without a bunch of cords? Look no further than the Dot-It lights from Sylvania. We're always looking for ways to light up our coffee nook near the fridge and this may just do the trick.
Bright white LED light with self-adhesive back for temporary ''No Mar'' stickup anywhere you need illumination. Sticks practically anywhere you have a clean solid surface. Colored housing presents a complementary finish to wherever you choose to mount the lamp. Powered by three ''AAA'' batteries that are included.
I love a bar set that looks like it's actually a martian space ship. This fashionable stainless steel set includes a corkscrew, bottle opener, drink shaker, fruit juice extractor and shot glass. Pieces feature black Santoprene details and rest in a molded tray.
If you've never had riced potatoes then you haven't had really good mashed potatoes. Some people will lead you to believe that mashed potatoes are the same as ricing potatoes - well it's just not true. Riced potatoes are something special and have a lighter feel to them provided you don't mix up the riced potatoes and spoil their flair.
We're not sure how much FREEDOM these fridge models will give you when they cost $2700-$6700 bucks. We do like how they match the existing or new kitchen you're building.
This was never called a French Refrigerator. Thermadore used Freedom to name its just-announced fridge because the fresh food and freezer parts of it can be separated and placed in different parts of your kitchen. Thermadore also introduced the built-in wall oven in the 50s, in case you were curious, so this is just another first for the appliance company. I do kind of like the idea of it, though I don’t know if I’ll ever have a kitchen big enough to ponder where to put my freezer versus my fresh food refrigeration units. Each part of the fridge has its own compressor and evaporator that eliminates any odor transfer between the refrigerator and freezer and perfectly regulates the interior temperature with a variance of only 1.5 degrees.
We love the in your face color scheme and find for $44 bucks - what could be better to make your holiday wings? It comes with a 20 recipe cookbook, sauce shaker and wing tongs. It also features a 30-minute Timer and Adjustable Thermostat. The Fry Basket With Folding Safety Handle is a nice addition and the SureRELEASE Break Away Cord Safety Indicator Light And Ready Light makes us feel a little cautious around so much hot oil but we know we'll have an out if anything goes wrong.
We prefer the term Kitchen Wreath over Angel Wreath (what is an angel wreath for - if it's for attracking angels - then okay if not - we'll stick to kitchen wreath). This cool wreath will look right at home in your kitchen. The kitchen wreath can be used for indoor or outdoor kitchens and is weather resistant. It's essentially a feather wreath with a metal frame. I'm thinking it really should be used indoors but who am I to tell you where to put your wreath.
We think an egg cooker is the perfect holiday gift for anyone. Who doesn't want to make egg cooking easier and also - who doesn't want to have the perfect egg when they cook them. Cooking eggs has never been easier! Just plug it in and this Oster appliance cooks up to 8 hard, medium or soft eggs in a matter of minutes! Steam heat poaches up to 4 eggs.
We didn't know simplehuman made a stand up counter top version of their bag holder but since we do now - we have to share it. We have the tucked away behind the door version but if you have pantry or nook for storing stuff this is for you.
The SimpleHuman Grocery Bag Holder is a more efficient and convenient way to store those grocery bags you save for other uses. The durable, functional and space-saving design allows it to fit in any cabinet or countertop, to dispense grocery bags reused by your household.
The Morrison all in one coffee maker in a design we really like. It looks like you're putting the coffee into some giant sugar cube and surely good coffee will result. We like the stainless steel with the stark white and charcoal grey elements. We've never seen a Rowenta coffee maker in person, but we're going to see one out this weekend just to see it in person. Amazing.
The Ice-n-Slice is an ice tray allowing you to insert a citrus slice into each cube. We like the idea of inserting just about any fruit into our ice cubes so lemons, limes, and oranges seem like a no-brainer. We think a little orange flavored sparkling water will make for a nice refreshing treate. How about a nice cocktail or two served up with a frozen slice of lime? Where's my Gin?
Another week and another Best of the Blogpire. We've got promotions all over the Blogpire including the chance to win a GPS at GPS Lodge! We have really been enjoying this in the Kitchen Contraptions kitchen since we purchased it about a month ago. IZ makes noise and music and other stuff but best of all keeps our 2 year hold daughter absolutely entertained during the tougher cooking moments. You can also plug in your ipod to this and play music that IZ will DJ to. The toy is very interactive and we well - love it.
IZ is the ultimate fusion of music and toy! Twist and turn iZ's ears to create new combinations of rhythm and lead tracks; press his belly to change-up the beat! iZ's eye's bounce to the rhythm and lead and his horn pulses in rainbow colors to the beat! Want to listen to your own tunes? Use the included cable to plug in our iPod or any music source to listen to iZ play your songs his way! Includes music input connection cable for use with iPod, MP3 players, CD plays, or any other music device that uses standard headset cable.
We love soy. We drink it each and every morning and we even use soy creamer in our coffee. We have really come to enjoy the soy difference and the taste is no longer well - soyish. Now making our own soy milk? We might be a bit too lazy but you never know - it's nice to have the option.
More and more health conscience Americans are changing their milk drinking habits! Demand for soymilk has never been greater! The best news is soymilk can be made fresh and pure right in your own kitchen for pennies a day. Soymilk is easier to make than coffee. Our new simple stainless steel Hurricane Soymilk Maker takes less than fifteen minutes to brew up to a liter of soymilk. The only ingredient needed is soybeans!
Jenn-Air Attrezzi™ Blender with Amber Tortoise Pitcher

We are always searching for the perfect kitchen vacuum. Currently our "vacuum wand" is not cutting the mustard nor dicing vegetables too well - if you get what we mean. This Miele isn't cheap at $499 but does look like it has all the settings and power we might need for a long term vacuum relationship.
Miele designed this vacuum to offer the power and quality of its larger vacuums in an exceptionally lightweight, compact design for maximum maneuverability. Choose among six power settings using a rotary dial on the canister, then use the deluxe handle, contoured to offer a comfortable grip, to guide the air-driven turbo brush head. The head gently lifts and removes dirt from low- and medium-pile rugs, while the straight-suction floor tool whisks up dirt on smooth floors. An advanced HEPA filter keeps ambient air clean. For quick access, tools store directly on the machine's telescoping wand. A long 29" cord offers maximum range.
We like the fact you can add something attractive in the soap dispensing category to your kitchen sink. Sure - I like to buy a nice dispensing bottle but I think having some stainless steel is a nice touch.
Smooth, stylish sink pump serves as a perfect complement in stainless steel kitchens. The Forma line by Interdesign combines stainless steel beauty and parallel style. Koni Sink Pump holds 16 oz. of liquid soap.
This classic wastebasket is handmade in denmark and looks like a cross between a Dalek and a fire hydrant. The vipp 15 has a 60 year tradition of quality. available in stainless, cream, pink, red, orange, rose, white or black. You can purchase replacement parts and fitted bags are available to keep your Vipp going strong for many years. The can holds approximately 4 gallons of whatever you want to put inside - we think you'll stick with garbage but with something this cool - who knows.
The new Crate & Barrel - or CB2 has all the latest kitchen gadgets. We found these new colored acrylic citrus squeezers and can imagine replacing our rather old and nasty current squeezer.
Zesty design. Don’t let the citrus colors and generally sunny disposition fool you. This is one hard worker—extracting all the juice (without the seeds) in one smooth motion.
We like anything that makes our drinks feel different and somehow look better. You can now quench your desire for unique design and better looking glasses with MOD GLASSWARE. Pristine white organic forms printed on 15 oz. tall clear glassware, these mod Drinking Glasses were made exclusively for RealmDekor.com in the USA. We have liked just about everything we find at the RealmDekor.com site but we really like these glasses.
