Review: AirDry Wine Glass Dryer - No Streaks or Spotting on Wine Glasses
The new AirDry wine glass rack lets you throw in the towel and let AirDry do the job. AirDry is designed to carefully hold four stemware glasses to allow them to dry naturally, without streaking or spotting, so there's no need to use a dishtowel or the added energy of a dishwasher.
The AirDry features rubber-coated hooks that softly grip glass stems, keeping them secure from falling or tapping against each other while drying. Whether you're drying one glass or four, the AirDry base is wide enough to prevent tipping.
It comes in two pieces, allowing you to quickly put it together
or put it away for storage.
It does not tip over and is very sturdy even when drying
one wine glass.
Look - no streaking with AirDry!
The Architec AirDry has a suggested retail price of $14.99. We think this is perfect for small dinner parties, and also a really nice alternative to using the dishwasher. You'll also be able to use this for those giant wine glasses, and have no streaks or spots.
Cuisinart Pure Indulgence 2-Quart Automatic Frozen Yogurt, Sorbet, and Ice Cream Maker
It was 80 degrees here the other day--time to start thinking about ice cream! This ice cream maker looks like a beast. It is fully automatic and makes ice cream, yogurt, and sorbet in as little as 25 minutes. The maker holds up to 2 quarts of frozen goodness and has a large spout to allow you to add mix-ins.
Bacon Salt - Zero Calorie Bacon Flavor in Just a Dash
We don't typically feature food items here at Kitchen Contraptions, but then we were made aware of Bacon Salt. When salt meets bacon, and bacon meets salt, it's something we MUST cover here at Kitchen Contraptions.
Bacon Salt will set you back a whopping $5, and also comes in three BACONY flavors — Original, Hickory and Peppered. Now here's the weird part - Bacon Salt is a zero calorie, zero fat, vegetarian and kosher seasoning salt that tastes just like real bacon. What? Zero calorie bacon? We knew the future was coming, but we didn't know it would be filled with such bacon goodness. Perhaps other bacon innovations are right around the corner.
Homebase Kitchen Digital Message Center and Picture Frame
We've been looking into getting something for the fridge that is both useful, and gets rid of some of the picture clutter on the it as well. The Audiovox Electronics Homebase DPF710K Digital Message Center & Picture Frame tries to do both - it combines an LCD Picture frame with a digital voice recording message center. The 7-inch LCD digital picture frame, with enough memory to hold over 125 high resolution pictures, is wrapped within an erasable white board, with a magnetic border for notes, coupons, and more. There's even a little slot for a Post-it pad. The Homebase also features a built-in microphone, for recording voice messages. This item can be mounted on the wall or fridge and includes counter top mounting brackets.
Chip Chick has a great review on the various pros and cons of the Homebase. Overall they liked it, but found the fact you had to sync up your pictures via USB was a bit of a drag.
Bean Vacuum Sucks The Air Out of Your Coffee - Keeps Coffee Fresh
The Bean Vac canister will keep your coffee fresh because it lacks air. Seriously, if you want to keep your ground coffee or whole coffee beans fresh, you're going to want to keep it air free. Air breaks down the coffee goodness, and makes your coffee taste bad. How does it work? Simply lock the silicone-gasket lid and Bean Vac's built-in vacuum pump creates a secure seal in seconds. Ideal for other foods such as cookies, nuts, spices, tea and chocolates.
iRobot Scooba 380 Kitchen Washing Robot - Clean Those Floors
The iRobot Scooba 380 Floor Washing Robot is the premium model for cleaning those kitchen floors. We've been using one here at Kitchen Contraptions for a little while and it works really well. You can expect the iRobot Scooba 380 Floor Washing Robot to cover about 850 square feet of space, so it's more than enough for most kitchen/dining room floors combined.
The Scooba 380 includes includes 2 Virtual Walls plus charging base, and a storage mat. You're going to want the virtual walls - we have two openings we don't want Scooba to cross - one in the kitchen and one in the dining room. The virtual walls keep him cleaning the kitchen and dining room only. Scooba also preps, washes, scrubs and squeegees sealed hardwood, tile and linoleum floors. We have hardwood in both rooms - oak, and we've really been pleased with the results.
Review: Architec Cork Cutting Board - Go Green When Cutting
Architec brings a green, renewable resource to food preparation with the introduction of the Cork Cutting Board, part of the company's "live smart. go-green" product line. We've been using the cutting board over the past several weeks, and find it to be really different. Not only is the shape and design interesting, but the feeling of the wine cork texture and flex the cutting board gives makes it very grippy on the countertops here at Kitchen Contraptions.
The cutting board comes packed with a simple wrap. Go-Green!
Just like a traditional wine cork, the Architec Cork Cutting Board is made of agglomerated cork, small particles of cork adhered together using heat and pressure. Cork - the bark from an oak tree grown in Spain, Portugal and China - is a green product, sustainable and renewable, produced with minimal environmental impact. The cork is harvested by hand by gently peeling the bark off the tree. This earth-friendly and sustainable method of hand harvesting cork leaves the cork tree intact and ready to produce again.
There are garlic peelers and there are garlic graters. This gadget combines both implements. It supposedly peels and grates with a single turn. It can also be used for ginger.
We love grilled vegetables in the summer and this looks like a great way to grill them. This mesh fry pan is made from heavy-gauge, stainless steel wire, which keeps the vegetables from falling into the grill. It has a long handle to allow you to move it across the grill.
Escali Primo Digital Multifunctional Scale - Weigh Your Food
One method we've used to diet in the past is to weigh our food to get a better idea on how much we eat. 5 ounces of cereal is a lot more cereal than you think, and trimming it down to 4 ounces can cut calories and your gut. This scale has a whopping 11 Lb or 5 Kg capacity, and displays in: Ounces, Pounds/Ounces and Grams. You can even use the tare feature - which subtracts the container's weight to obtain the weight of its contents - perfect for cereal eating. Whatever you decide, after we stopped using this for dieting, we now use it all the time for cooking and perfectly measuring out the ingredients.
Grilling season has begun, but it isn't always light enough to see the meat you are grilling. This light attaches to your stainless steel grill tool with a magnet. It has a bendable neck, so you can position the light just the way you want it.
Designed by Élan Falvai, the ceramic bowl is microwaveable and dishwasher safe, and it has a spoon rest that will eliminate sunken spoonage. The designer wanted to make them both multifunctional and stackable, and we think the mark has been hit. Best of all the stainless steel spoon is included with the bowl.
Emeril has come out with a new breadmaker that seems to do it all. The claim to fame of this breadmaker is that it allows you to make baguettes. It also has 14 settings that allow you to make lots of other things, including salt-free and gluten-free breads, pasta, cakes, and jams. It also has a delayed start function, so you can have bread waiting for you when you get home.

Zojirushi Mr. Bento Stainless-Steel lined Lunch Jar - Perfect for Summer Camp
With summer camp season up on us, we thought we'd feature one our favorite kitchen contraptions that actually leaves the kitchen - the Zojirushi Mr. Bento Stainless-Steel lined Lunch Jar. We're not really sure how we ever lived without this very unique and functional lunch box growing up, but at least our kids will never go without. The Lunchbox features a stainless steel construction and vacuum insulation. The best part is you get four microwaveable inner bowls and washable container, and it includes a convenient carry strap for easy transport and a easy to carry bag.
Our young ones at day camp don't microwave anything, but cut up apples and fruit fit easily. You can also expect to fit lunch meats and rice in here too.
CDN 2-IN-1 PROBE THERMOMETER - Grill Meats to Perfection
One thing we do when grilling is to check the temperature of the meats on the grill. Some people cook with time, and use just their eye, but on larger cuts of meats, and when cooking lots of meat at once - you can end up with underdone chicken or pork loins. We recently got this new CDN 2-IN-1 PROBE THERMOMETER you can use for grilling or in a conventional oven as well. We took it out for a test drive, and the easy to read temperature, along with color coded scale for "doneness" does the trick. The 2-IN-1 Probe Thermometer also rests on it's side easily, allowing you to put it down without fear of it tumbling off it's grill perch.
High heat probe
Preprogrammed & programmable
Dual progress display
Target range indication
Color-coded scale
Pre-alert 10° before target temp
Overcooked alert for 10° after target temp
We're grilling some pork chops here. The 2-In-1 Thermometer
is easy to hold - and you can see the large display reads easily
from the picture.
We suggest you check it out. The pre-alert and overcooked alert functions were a lifesaver. We often get interrupted to deal with other items or just the kids needing something while grilling.
Ever feel like squishing someone under a big pot? You can live your fantasy without hurting anyone with this trivet. This pot holder in the shape of a person is made with durable steel and can withstand any heavy pot. When not in use, you can hang it up. It comes in red and silver.
Stainless Beer Can Chicken Rack with Drip Pan - No Flare Ups
If you've ever made Beer Can Chicken, one thing is bound to happen - spillage. This spillage produces flare ups on the grill of epic proportions. The Steven Raichlen Beer Can Chicken Rack with Drip Pan makes the process easier and virtually fail-proof. Square construction gives you greater stability, and the bird won't tip and beer won't spill. Metal drip pan collects meat juices for sauces and prevents dripping fat from erupting into flare-ups.
We're always trying to keep our kitchen rug (a 6x9 thing of blue beauty) clean and spot free. We spotted the SpotBot due to it's claims of being hands free, and the thought of not bending over and just placing the bot on the spot was more than appealing. The SpotBot has two cleaning modes: hands-free and manual. In hands-free mode, you just fill the SpotBot with water and cleaning fluid, select your stain type, and then walk away. Within seven minutes, its 24-inch circumference cleaning head does everything else for you on the SPOT of your choosing. For larger stains or ones that require some extra elbow grease and time, use the Tough Stain Brush that attaches to the hose.
Spring is finally here and Summer is not that far away. April was an amazing month at Kitchen Contraptions with lots of interesting grilling, contraption, and gadget related finds for your kitchen. We'll have lots of reviews coming up in May and June of new products for your cooking needs.
