This wooden cutting board was crafted by 1337motif, and uses real life "pixels" of walnut and hard maple. The cutting board is then glued with FDA approved waterproof glue, sealed with mineral oil and beeswax to keep all that alien goodness contained, and then let loose into your kitchen to shoot randomly at your appliances. It's not cheap at $125, but you can be rest assured when having a dinner party it will be the talk of the kitchen.
Instead of having a separate knife or chopper for each vegetable, this chopper does it all. It has three pushers and four interchangeable stainless steel blades. It can core and wedge an apple, slice a zucchini, or cut up a whole fruit or vegetable.
We're always on the look out for ways to extend our kitchen beyond it's narrow borders. The Fridge Backpack is a great way to bring more food, keep it fresh, and also take a relaxing hike with your kitchen strapped to your back. Okay - so it doesn't have a stove, or countertops, or other things you might expect, but the Fridge Backpack concept is solid. Most portable coolers are handheld or just too large for hiking, and this one is the perfect size.
The pack features "batteries" that can be recharged at home or in the car. Dining will also be civilized, because all your utensils, cup, and plate are part of the casing. It's just a concept for now, but we hope it becomes a real product to purchase soon.
This meat grinder allows you to make your own sausage and meatballs. It can be used with all types of meat. It has a single-phase motor so the speed stays stable. It includes a standard 0.18" hole diameter, stainless steel grinding plate and sausage stuffing kit.
Folding cutting boards are such a great idea. This one has handle-activated hinges that allow you to fold the sides and transfer your chopped ingredients to a bowl or pan. After chopping, you squeeze the handle and the sides of the cutting board fold up.
Summer is in full swing and corn is everywhere. Do you need special plates for your corn? Yes, I think you do. This microwave and dishwasher safe plates come in fun colors and keep the messy butter away from the rest of your food.
I hate having a warm soda, and this device chills drinks quickly. It chills a can of soda or beer in one minute or a bottle of wine in less than four minutes. You add ice and water to the chiller and it spins the drink around until it is cool and then automatically stops.
We've been using these "Squishy Bowls" from GuyotDesigns over the past few weeks for prep and espresso shot holders, and have to say they work great. Designed with backpacking in mind, the bowls are both squish-able and made out of heat resistant silicone. Even after much squishing these bowls retain their shape, and are perfect for hot and cold foods especially with our kids. You can hand wash these with soap and water, and we've also put them into the dishwasher with great results.
The bowls come in the following sizes:
Large bowl: 16 oz. (500ml) capacity, 3.3 oz (93g) weight
Medium bowl: 14 oz. (420ml) capacity, 2.6 oz. (67g) weight
Cup: 6 oz. (200ml) capacity, 1.7 oz. (48g) weight
Travel shot: 1.5 oz. (44ml) capacity, 0.5 oz. (23g) weight
Reader Denise F. has written in to get some help from the readers of Kitchen Contraptions. Do you know what this item is in the picture - we think it's some type of a serving tray you can keep food warm in with steam heat of some sorts, or just warm.
I was at a public sale a few weeks ago, and bought an old electric percolator for $1.00. Because the auctioneers did not know what this was, and seemingly neither did anyone else in attendance, it came "with" my coffee pot. Do YOU have any ideas? It's plastic, 14 inches long, 6 1/2 inches wide and 1 1/2 inches high. The base is non stick with a 1 inch hole in one corner and it has a plastic dome lid. It has no company markings, just a sticker that says made in Taiwan.
Sound off in the comments and help Denise figure out what this kitchen contraption is.
Madness will ensue after you ingest the shear amount of meat you can grill on this wood fired grill. The Grillworks ($3,375) is handmade in the USA, and features an adjustable grilling surface that is moved up and down with a hand crank made of aluminum. It has two removable surfaces with slanted V-Channels that capture juices for post-grill prep, and runs on wood not charcoal. Hardcore.
Sure it's not going to cook your dinner, but it's also going to fit just about anywhere in your kitchen. And not everyone uses a microwave for cooking, so it's a good little (very little) microwave to warm things up. At $130 bucks it measures 10.5"x12"x10" taking up about 1 cubic foot of space on your countertop.
Making a cup of tea doesn't have to be messy or difficult. The "Drop Stop" tea strainer allows you to steep loose leaf or bagged tea in the cup, then place the strainer on a table without making a giant wet pool of hot tea. The Drop Stop tea strainer will set you back just $16.
Currently only available at Williams Sonoma, we think the Peugeot Electric Wine Opener has a nice sense of style to do the heavy lifting of opening a bottle of wine. The stainless steel wine opener uncorks bottles in seconds with only a press of a button. It's rechargeable, fits any size bottle, and works with natural and synthetic corks. It's priced at just $120, so you'll be set back a few bucks, but in the end your wine will open and ready for drinking.

Ihis economical Espresso maker uses steam pressure instead of a pump mechanism to create delicious espresso. It's a fast method that's perfect for a morning wake-up or after-dinner drink. Our sister site over at Single Serve Espresso has a full review, and we think if they like it - we'll like it.

Winner of the 2008 red dot award for International Design Excellence, this salad spinner really just works. It features a fast-action pump dry technology, and the bowl doubles as serving piece. We love the lid lock feature, and also how easy it is to store in the fridge and in your cabinets.
In the lettuce goes.
Lock it in place.
And if your our 4 year old daughter, you have fresh spinning clean salad as a result.
Emerson Fiery Red Microwave - Contemporary Small Appliance
We always want a contemporary design over a more traditional look in our kitchen. This 700-watt microwave features 10 power levels and 6 convenient 1-touch settings (popcorn, beverage, potato, pizza, frozen dinner, reheat), and it looks great. A lock-out feature makes it child safe, and the stainless steel façade with bright modern red accents wipes clean with a damp cloth.
This whisk is safe for all nonstick cookware, and it features a stainless steel handle. The whisk end shapes help to reache into pan corners. And can you believe it comes with a 10-year warranty? That's a lot of whisking.
Featured in red above (currently our favorite kitchen contraption color), the Ensemble Red & Brushed Stainless extra tall Can & Bottle Opener has die-cast metal cutter assembly that is dishwasher safe. It also works with short smaller cans. We like the heavyweight, extra-tall design, and think our can opening days are not numbered now.
This bread knife is made of a high-quality serrated carbon steel blade with a non-stick color coating, and over the past two weeks has treated us well. We thought, "Do we really need a dedicated bread knife?" The answer is yes. It cuts cleanly through thick-crusted breads, bagels, and more. The best part is the sheath so you can store the knife and not worry about getting
Fortune Teller Finger Guard - Silicone Fortunes Made Easy
This silicone finger-guard is flexible and heat-resistant (up to 600ºF), and in the shape of that famous fortune teller paper thing you used on the playground as a kid. For me, it was always the girls rifting off a fortune, until my friends and I used them in our Dungeons and Dragons games. Now that I'm a bit older, I can see cooking with these and entertaining the kids.
This is the winner of the Whirlpool kitchen range concept contest, and it's quite the looker. It's both a cooktop, and also a wok top, plus it fits in tight places. We're not sure about the rather odd looking wood panels, but do those same panels in matte black or fiery red, and you may have a total winner.
Dom Pérignon II Champagne Cooler - Be Chill at the Top
Marc Newson is a pretty tasteful designer, and we love the look of this sleek Dom Pérignon Champagne Cooler. The holder is crafted in solid aluminum. Expect this to run you about $1000 to keep your Dom cold and crisp.
