You can use this tray to cook nachos or fajitas on the grill, stovetop, or oven and then to keep your food warm while you serve it. If you refrigerate it before using it, it also works for keeping food cool. It is made from an aluminum alloy.
This is an interesting idea. These coasters were inspired by a six pack. You pop out the individual rubber coasters for use and then put them back in the ring for storage. Comes in six different colors.
So if you are tired of struggling with a knife to carve your Halloween pumpkins, there is now a power pumpkin saw available. Crock-Pot has a new touch screen slow cooker coming out this Fall, and we've been doing some hands on testing of this new model. It features a luminescent touch screen interface instead of the more traditional dial controls found on most Crock-Pots. The eLume model also is very large, allowing you to make meals large enough to feed 8+ people. We decided to make the famous Kalua Pig plate lunch recipe we've recently been taught friends for our first meal with the Crock-Pot.
Kalua Pig Recipe:
4.5 pound pork butt
2½ tablespoons Hawaiian salt - we used smoky salt from Penzeys
1/2 bottle of liquid smoke
Garlic from Penzeys - we'd normally used fresh garlic but tried their new dried minced garlic
1 head of cabbage
The controls on the front are very easy to use, and the glowing lights are also a pleasant addition to the kitchen ambiance. We dialed up 6.5 hours, and then put it on high. Pressing start allows you to start the countdown.
This won't be coming to our house because my son is allergic to peanuts, but if you are interested in making your own peanut butter, this machine is dedicated to it. It isn't the most attractive thing I've ever seen, but it seems very functional. It has five settings, so you can make the peanut butter the consistency you want--from crunchy to smooth. You simply poor the peanuts in and turn it on.
This stackable design for a fridge is by creator Stefan Buchberger, a design student at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. The idea came out of living in a small dorm room, and the thought of being able to go vertical like a skyscraper in a crowded city appealed to Stefan.
"I decided to create Flatshare fridge because there is nothing more disgusting than a dirty fridge in a shared flat," he says. "At the time, I was living in such a flat!"
The fridge consists of a base station, and up to four stackable modules that allow each individual user to have his or her own refrigerator space. Each can be customized with various colorful skins as well as with add-ons like a bottle opener or a whiteboard. We think just having meat, vegetables, snacks, and beer all separated out in a college fridge sounds like pure genius.
We've been camping a bunch, and though we love our Jet Boil to make soup and other camping food fair, we often long for something a bit more in the outdoor kitchen. Kelly Bremer's eco-friendly innovation, the alfresco cooking system consisting of a stove, grill, and smoker allows you to cook much more in the great outdoors. It has a heat-activated color shifting material that warns of the flame's invisible nature. It is also very aware about not harming the environment and uses eco-friendly denatured alcohol for cooking.
Only a concept for now, we recommend reading the entire vision of this innovative cooking system.
Review: Capresso H20 Plus Water Kettle - Make an Eco-Friendly Cup of Tea
We've been looking for a more energy efficient and safe way to make a cup of tea in the morning, and we believe we've found it with the Capresso H20 Plus Water Kettle. The Capresso H2O Plus Water Kettle is a fast and convenient way to brew hot water for tea and other beverages, and a new independent study shows another advantage: energy savings.
The energy-conscious Capresso H2O Plus Water Kettle has a concealed heating element under a stainless steel dome on the base of the kettle, which boils water faster and uses less energy than a stovetop kettle, according to an independent study by Gaynes Labs, Inc. In fact, water boiled on an electric range used nearly 60 percent more energy than water boiled in the Capresso H2O Plus, and on a gas range the stovetop kettle use over 163 percent more energy.
The Capresso H20 Plus Water Kettle uses 163% less
energy than our gas range.
The high-quality Schott glass showcases water when it boils, making it instantly clear when the water reaches a rolling boil, and we think as you can see above - it just looks cool. The kettle automatically shuts off when the water reaches a boil, ensuring the kettle does not boil dry. For added safety and energy savings, the kettle also automatically shuts off when it is removed from the power base.
We also found the kettle easy to operate, the H2O Plus comes with a simple on/off switch and a blue indicator light to show when the kettle is on. Indicator lines from 16 to 48 ounces and two to six cups on the glass kettle make it easy to fill the right amount. The power base includes the electric plug, with a cord storage option so the cord does not get in your way.
This grater has four different blades--extra course for soft cheeses; medium ribbon for chocolate, cheese, nuts, etc.; slicer for vegetables; and a removable zester for hard cheeses and citrus.
It is getting cooler, so I can think about baking again. This ovenware is made to last. It is made from bonded tri-ply stainless steel with an aluminum core. The baking sheet comes in two sizes: a 14'' x 17'' baking sheet or a 10'' x 14'' baking sheet.
We've been using the Kuhn Rikon Ratchet Safety LidLifter over the past few weeks, and have found it to be much better than our old can opener. The big difference is the lid that is cut from the can isn't sharp, and the handle is much easier to hold. We also like how the majority is made of composite plastic, making it easier to clean.
Do you have a Kindle? If so you can now subscribe to Kitchen Contraptions on it. Yep - you can download all of our stories each month, and then fire up your favorite kitchen contraption and make something yummy. Sure you can read it on the web, but isn't cooler reading it on a wireless device? We think so. Just file this under shameless self-promotion, and welcome to the 21st century.

Typhoon Signature 10-Inch Bamboo Steamer - Make Dim Sum at Home
It's getting a little colder here in the northeast, and that's when we start to get the itch for Dim Sum. We'll go to our local Super 88, and pick up a variety of items that need steaming. We really like the 10-inch bamboo steamer from Typhoon, as it can fit up to 6 steamed buns, and a load of steamed dumplings. You can also use it to steam vegetables, and other yummy things as well.
Sits in a wok or on a saucepan, without water touching the bottom
I love risotto, but it takes a lot of effort. Mario Batali has a risotto pot made from cast-iron with a porcelain enamel finish. The rounded edges allow access to all areas of the pot, which is important in stirring the risotto. Includes a recipe booklet and wooden spoon.
We've been using the Bosch MIXXo hand blender over the past few weeks, and have to say - why didn't we have a hand blender before? You see, we make lots of soups that we love to blend. We currently have a large blender that makes us pour the hot soup in, blend, and then have to wash out the blender, the pot, etc. Yuck. With the Bosch MIXXO hand blender, we can simply blend the soup right in the pot, resulting in have the clean up. YAY!
Blending soup has never been any easier. Thanks MIXXO!
Key Features:
Cordless handheld immersion blender with chopper attachment
Runs on lightweight, long-lasting re-chargeable lithium ion battery
Anti-splash blender foot; LED charge-level indicator; soft-touch handle
24-ounce blender jug and charging station included; dishwasher-safe parts
Measures 2-1/2 by 2-1/2 by 15-3/4 inches; 1-year limited warranty
Setup is a breeze, and the unit also charges quickly. Since we're on the green front, we also charged the blender, and then unplugged the adaptor, and the charge in the main unit lasts for a couple of sessions of soup making. We also know it's the late summer, but making iced drinks with the hand blender is really easy as well.

We've just gotten word the newly redesigned Tassimo by Bosch is finely available for to order. We've just received a review unit over at Single Serve Coffee, and think the new system has improved greatly. The new unit heats up quickly, and best of all is whisper quiet. We also like the redesigned water reservoir with a built in filter. The coffee variety is also quite excellent, with Starbucks and Seattle's Best both available to use with any Tassimo.

The Toast One concept toaster flips upside down to release the toast right onto your plate. It seems like this idea should have been played out at some point in some toaster, but to the best of our knowledge it hasn't. The downside to this design is it only does one slice at a time. That's not too bad, as we only usually eat one slice at a time anyways.
We've been using this Forged Santoku knife with non-stick coating for just over a week now, and we think it's truly a kitchen knife wonder. If you're looking to slice vegetables, meat, and even cake - this is the knife for you. We also love the knife sheath, not only for safe storage, but for travel. We brought this knife with us safely this past week on our yearly trip to Martha's Vineyard.
This is but one knife in a series of new knives from Kuhn Rikon that has a sheath, non-stick coating, and is made out of a fully forged German steel blade.
ultra-sharp, fully forged, premium quality German steel blade
