Oster 4207 Electric Wine Opener

316YBSVF2BL._SS500_.jpg

I'm terrible at opening wine bottles, but this promises to make it easy. It can open up to 30 bottles with the touch of a button. It has a rechargeable base and is designed to fit all traditional wine bottles. A foil cutter is included to remove the seal.

Knife Block Blasts Germs with UV-C Rays

germ_block-218x300.jpg

Looking for a high tech solution for an age old problem can lead you down lots of paths, but we always love when it lead to UV-C rays. Okay - we prefer lasers, but this knife block uses safe UV-C light--the same technology used in hospitals to kill surface bacteria on instruments--to eliminate 99.99% of food bacteria and viruses from cutlery in 20 seconds. The ultraviolet bulb sanitizes knives up to 8 3/4" long from tip to bolster, killing pathogens like salmonella, listeria, and staphylococcus to help prevent cross contamination and food-borne illness. Simply rinse the knives and place them in the block; the heat from the bulb dries knives as they are sterilized.

Wireless Blender Uses Power from Your Countertops Not Cords

This has to be seen to be believed, but this blender works without a power cord or cable by simply placing it on an eCoupled-enabled countertop or work surface. Unlike low-powered devices such as cell phones and MP3 players that only need five watts or less, high-powered kitchen devices like blenders, grills, and coffee makers often require kilowatts of power - a much greater technological challenge.

34799-hi-Blender_1.jpg

Well it looks like they've done it. And I can't tell you how quickly I'd replace our countertops and cook surfaces if this becomes mainstream. Killer.

Endo Magnet Fridge Clips - Hold Your Stuff

HOLDEM3.jpg

Fridge clips are hard to find, and we've been lucky enough to find these cool magnetic clips called ENDO. You clip the ends of whatever you want to the fridge by placing the item at Endo's end.

A solid mass of neodymium, silicone and steel, “Endo” presents an elegant alternative to conventional means of magnetic attachment. No springs. No coils. No internal moving parts. Endo is the one-piece all-purpose silicone magnet with springy clipping action.

Secures poetry, recipes, photos, memos and documents to the fridge, message board or metal surface.

The magnets in Endo are very strong, we love the feel of the silicone on our finger tips, and you can use them for just about anything you can think of to hang from your fridge or magnet ready surface. We've been using them to hang up a variety of spoons, and our iPod Shuffle.

The Perfect Popcorn Popper for Movie Popcorn at Home

318NVB52J7L._SL500_AA280_.jpg

Popcorn makes a movie. We love making popcorn in just about any way possible - except microwave popcorn. We'll make it on the stove, in a pan, on a campfire, and also with an electric popper like the Poplite. This electric popper uses hot air, not oil, for a healthy, low-calorie treat (but you can always add some naughty butter or oil after if you like). It's faster and more economical than microwave-bag popcorn, and makes up to 18 cups in less than 2-1/2 minutes. So get this and get popping for that perfect creature feature this month, or whatever movie you desire to view while eating perfectly popped popcorn.

Review: FoodSaver Vacuum Sealer - Automatic Bag Sealing and Marination

product2.jpg

Given these troubled economic times, storying and preserving the costly food you purchase should be on your mind. In the past we used Tupperware or other methods like zip-loc bags to store both our leftovers, and our frozen meat and vegetables. After using the new Foodsaver Vacuum Sealer for the past month, we know both of those methods are going thee way of the dodo. Not only did we experience longer saving of our leftovers, but meat sealed and frozen had no freezer burn after 1 month.

foodsaver_3.jpg
The unit is sleek and sits way back on your counters.

The FoodSaver Vacuum Sealer with SmartSeal Technology makes storage a breeze, and it's not going to spoil or get freezer burned like other methods. We also used the FoodSaver to vacuum marinate meat and fish, and found both the marinator (included), and marinating in vacuum sealed bags provided more flavor than our Vacu Vin marinator.

Large appliances. They're so large, and making the right choice can be a tough one. You want to pick something that fits your cooking needs, but also one that looks perfect in your kitchen. Oilless Turkey Fryer

41+W+nQaVzL._SL500_AA280_.jpg

I've had fried turkey before and it is pretty good, but getting it in and out of the oil is tricky business. An oilless turkey fryer seems counter intuitive, but this turkey cooker uses infrared technology to "fry" a turkey instead of oil. It has a propane-fueled burner to heat the chamber and stainless steel walls to distribute the heat. It has a drop in basket and automatically cooks at the correct temperature. Infared cooking is fast--it can cook a 12-lb bird in one hour and fifty minutes. There is also a drip pan for catching juices for gravy.

Kuhn Rikon 5 Liter Pressure Cooker - Speed Up Your Cooking Times

kuhn-rikon-5-liter-pressure-cooker.jpg

We've never really tried a pressure cooker, but some of our friends rave about how they can really speed up your cooking times, and reduce your engergy bill because cooking takes less time. With Kuhn Rikon's Stainless Steel Pressure Cooker, you can do both. By using their pressure cooker to prepare everything from risotto to roasts to cheesecakes, you'll reduce your cooking time by one-third and your energy use by 70 percent. The 18/10 stainless steel cooker won't react to foods being cooked, and the solid thermal aluminum bottom promotes even browning and rapid heat absorption. The bottom pan is dishwasher safe.

Fasta Pasta The Microwave Cooker

I'm skeptical of this, but it claims to cook pasta in the microwave in 15 minutes or less. The cooker has water level guides and measuring holes in the lid to determine serving sizes. The lid can also be used as a colander. It can be used with any type of pasta, as well as rice or soy noodles.

Review: William Bounds Black Walnut Pepper Mill and Bali Spice Pepper

IMG_0826.jpg

We have been using the William Bounds Black Walnut Pepper Mill, and enjoying their pepper corns as well. When picking a pepper mill you have to make sure and get one that isn't a chore to use. The Black Walnut Pepper Mill from William Bounds is very easy on the hand, easy to turn, and very easy to change the grind setting. Combined with some of their pepper corns which are dated for freshness, you really get the perfect combo. Our favorite pepper so far is the Wildcrafted Bali Long Pepper - it's very different and really delicious on pork and other meats.

IMG_0828.jpg
Adjusting the grind is right at the top of the pepper mill.

What we really like about the Walnut Pepper Mill is that each turn of the pepper mill produces just the right amount of pepper, and the course setting is perfect for salads. Measuring 9 inches tall, the mill is designed for either salt or peppercorns. The American Black Walnut Mill joins several other mills in the Exotic Woods Collection including Rosewood Klios, Teak Mills, Bamboo Mills and Cherry Wood Mills.

CDN ProAccurate Heavy Duty Fridge and Freezer Thermometer

thermometer_1.jpg

Want to save money on your electric bill? We recommend getting a fridge and freezer thermometer. A simple $7.99 investment can help lower your energy bills by monitoring the temperature in your refrigerator, which consumes more energy than any other appliance in the typical American home according to the U.S. Department of Energy. As energy costs soar, the CDN ProAccurate Heavy Duty Refrigerator/Freezer Thermometer makes it easy to keep your refrigerator at the optimal temperature to reduce energy costs while ensuring food safety.

We were able to gradually adjust the temperature of our refrigerator and freezer to the optimal temperature, and we found the easy to read dial assuring that the temperature was both accurate and safe. Before this we never knew the settings we had the freezer and refrigerator on were even close to the right temperature.

We think for $7.99 you can't go wrong, and you can also use the CDN ProAccurate Heavy Duty Fridge and Freezer Thermometer over and over again. We've left ours in the freezer to ensure things stay at the right temperature moving forward.
