Margaritaville Tahiti Frozen Concoction Maker

612168v1.jpg

This drink maker allows you to make three drinks with one machine. You fill the hopper with ice and poor the ingredients for each drink into the jars. There are preprogrammed options for margarita, mudslide, daiquiri, smoothie, colada, and mojito (hmmm. . . . a mojito is not a frozen drink, but whatever. . . ). There are also manual controls to allow you to control the thickness of your drink.

There are also removable dividers so you can cook larger portions. The steamer also has an LCD screem, timer, warning function, and auto shutoff.

The Perfect Popcorn Popper for Movie Popcorn at Home

318NVB52J7L._SL500_AA280_.jpg

Popcorn makes a movie. We love making popcorn in just about any way possible - except microwave popcorn. We'll make it on the stove, in a pan, on a campfire, and also with an electric popper like the Poplite. This electric popper uses hot air, not oil, for a healthy, low-calorie treat (but you can always add some naughty butter or oil after if you like). It's faster and more economical than microwave-bag popcorn, and makes up to 18 cups in less than 2-1/2 minutes. So get this and get popping for that perfect creature feature this month, or whatever movie you desire to view while eating perfectly popped popcorn.

Oilless Turkey Fryer

41+W+nQaVzL._SL500_AA280_.jpg

I've had fried turkey before and it is pretty good, but getting it in and out of the oil is tricky business. An oilless turkey fryer seems counter intuitive, but this turkey cooker uses infrared technology to "fry" a turkey instead of oil. It has a propane-fueled burner to heat the chamber and stainless steel walls to distribute the heat. It has a drop in basket and automatically cooks at the correct temperature. Infared cooking is fast--it can cook a 12-lb bird in one hour and fifty minutes. There is also a drip pan for catching juices for gravy.

KitchenAid Professional 600 Series 6-Quart Stand Mixer In Licorice

41jm9hziv3L._SS400_.jpg

We know what you're going to say, "Hey - everyone has one of these mixers. If you got married in the last 10 years you might even have two." We know, but we love the fact this one is in licorice. It's the little things in the world of kitchen gadgets that make you take notice, and simply calling this mixer's color licorice got ours. The KitchenAid 600 features all the usual stuff. A 10-speed stand mixer with all-metal construction and powerful 575-watt motor, a 6-quart stainless-steel mixing bowl; direct-drive transmission with all-steel gears, and an electronic speed sensor. This one even has auto shut-off motor protection. You also get all the usual trimmings: wire whip, burnished flat beater, spiral dough hook, and a pouring shield.

Review: Crock-Pot eLume Touch Screen Slow Cooker

IMG_6973.jpg

elumecrockpot.jpgCrock-Pot has a new touch screen slow cooker coming out this Fall, and we've been doing some hands on testing of this new model. It features a luminescent touch screen interface instead of the more traditional dial controls found on most Crock-Pots. The eLume model also is very large, allowing you to make meals large enough to feed 8+ people. We decided to make the famous Kalua Pig plate lunch recipe we've recently been taught friends for our first meal with the Crock-Pot.

Kalua Pig Recipe:

  • 4.5 pound pork butt
  • 2½ tablespoons Hawaiian salt - we used smoky salt from Penzeys
  • 1/2 bottle of liquid smoke
  • Garlic from Penzeys - we'd normally used fresh garlic but tried their new dried minced garlic
  • 1 head of cabbage

The controls on the front are very easy to use, and the glowing lights are also a pleasant addition to the kitchen ambiance. We dialed up 6.5 hours, and then put it on high. Pressing start allows you to start the countdown.
