iTouchless Fully Automatic Stainless Steel Touchless Trashcan

Tired of touching a dirty trash can when you have to throw something away, and questioning whether you picked up a new germ or two? iTouchless is the answer to clean throwaways. As your hand or debris enter the zone 6 inches from the infrared sensor on top of the trash can, the lid will automatically slide open. No up or down lid motion means more capacity in less space. The lid will remain open if debris or hand is within the 6 inch range of the infrared sensor. 3 seconds after your hand moves away from the lid it closes automatically.

The Benefits: This 100% touch-free trash can creates a germ free, odor free, automated environment. It keeps your hands clean while you are cooking or playing with your children. It also helps prevent contamination, which reduces the threat of certain illnesses and infections.

iTouchless Hands-Free Infrared Automatic Trash Can

I get very annoyed with all the touchless bathroom sinks and towel dispensers -- I never know whether I should be waving my hands in front of the device or not -- so I'm not sure I'm really excited about having touchless devices around the house. Needless to say, here is a touchless garbage can. You put hand or debris about six inches away from the infrared sensor near the lid and it will open. It closes automatically in three seconds after debris has been released and your hand moves away.

The trick with this waste basket is that is supposedly does not need a liner, thereby reducing your use of plastic and helping the environment. The waste basket is made from a single sheet of plastic that can be quickly be unfold, wiped clean, and refolded

Automatic Kitchen Compost Machine

naturemill.jpg

In my house growing up we put our compost in a jar. Of course it was my chore to take it out to the compost pile, and it was stinky and messy. This seems like a much better way to compost. You can put in up to 5 pounds a day and you get fresh compost every two weeks.

simplehuman Butterfly Step Can

P-Can-Bfly-38-1

We have really been enjoying our simplehuman step can and think this slimmer fitting step can might be another candidate for our kitchen space. The award winning butterfly step can has a narrow footprint to fit in tight spaces. The lid opens from the center like a butterfly for maximum clearance under low counter tops. It closes slowly & quietly with damper mechanism
and has a spring loaded pedal which opens the lid smoothly along with an integrated toe kick for easy access.

Review: simplehuman Semi-Round Stainless Steel Trash Can

P-Can-Plid-Semi-Rnd-1simplehuman was kind enough to send us their new semi-round stainless steel trash can to review. We currently have a round stainless steel trash can but have always been rather unhappy with it. We just reviewed the simplehuman paper towel holder and it fixed many of the issues we had with our old one. What will the simplehuman semi-round trash can do to improve our lives?

Library---7364Our current stainless steel can has the following problems:

  • Lid doesn't stay up when you push the pedal. You can sit there and hold it with your foot and it flops up and down as you try and throw stuff away.
  • The bags never fit inside the can it it just looks unsightly with them overflowing the lid area.
  • The can just isn't big enough and the inside container always is coming out when you change bags because it has some handle we never use.
  • The lid is also stainless steel. You'd think this would be great, but because it endures lots of moisture underneath it has rust inside the lid. Yuck! The lid also is very heavy to use with the pedal because it's made of stainless steel.
  • Our current can just isn't ideal for the kitchen space we have to allocate to it. It's round but doesn't fit flush to the wall and the lid is always banging the side of the fridge enclosure.

Brabantia Twin Bin - Dual Trash & Compost Bin

Twin Bin If you care about the environment then you'll want the Brabantia Twin Bin. This waste bin from Brabantia introduces two very different, yet complementary features: an environmentally friendly twin-bin feature so that organic and compostable matter can be kept separate from all other waste, and an all new oval body shape that's pleasing on the eye.

We recently covered the ceramic countertop compost bin, and now we can compost in the kitchen trash as well? I can see myself filling up the counter compost, taking over to this new twin bin, then taking it out to the big compost pile out back, until it finally turns into dirt and I put it in the garden.

Countertop Compost Ceramic Crock

1051252 Since we were just outside stirring up our large compost pile we started to search around for better compost actions after coming inside for a glass of water. I never would have expected a countertop ceramic compost option - but this might be a great way to get things started inside and then take it outside to our larger compost pile. Apparently this containter has an interior that resists odors and stains and has a carbon filter on the lid to trap even more odors. I can tell you right now - if this stuff doesn't work to trap the odors then you can expect a swift return to the manufacturer.
